Smith Mountain Lake. VA

This new ground-up house is sited on Smith Mountain Lake in southern Virginia. It will be a retirement house for an empty-nest couple, and will consist of a main house with an attached guest house (for in-law’s). The concept is to create a sculptural form that fits in with the organic lines of the lake’s edge. The house will be set into the sloped site, with full-height glass walls facing the view. It is situated on the end of an inlet, so all living spaces will face the lake. Entry to the house is between the two structures, and down into a shared plaza. A large garage/workshop for the Owner’s car collection will face the street side of the property, with multiple garage doors that open to the site.  Sustainable systems and materials will be utilized in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the house
