Eat, Play, Cleanse

The interior of this traditional apartment was completely transformed by the insertion of three objects of everyday living - a bar/dining table, a media wall, and a shower. All else is backdrop.

The bar-dining table is a simple wood volume from which a blue frosted table seems to unfold, supported by a simple aluminum frame. LED lighting illuminates the joint between materials, emphasizing their ethereal quality.

The media wall is at the center of the space, an electronic hub that controls light, sound, and communication throughout the apt. A flat screen TV is contained within the freestanding wood mass, as well as a stereo, subwoofer, amplifier, dvd player, and speakers, all concealed from view within the thickness of the wall. The Owner controls the media wall with his iPhone.

The steam shower is the final retreat, a transformational space that includes body sprays, stereo system, and customized scenes of LED lighting. Full-height glass panels enclose this space, changing from frosted to transparent, and framing the room within. The tile floor is reminiscent of the shadows of trees on the ground, while the threshold of river stones beyond the glass wall conveys its healing and transformational qualities.
