The Owner of this Logan Circle apartment asked us to incorporate an office/library into his existing apartment.  Our idea was to use a new staircase to weave together the apartment and the existing open loft space above.  The structure of the stair creates the space for the office area below, and the steps create storage as well as a desk area.  Library shelving rises along the edge of the stair from the apartment level up to the loft ceiling above.  The stair's steel structure maintains a light, open feeling in the office space as it connects to the floor of the loft.  We were also asked to re-design the dining/living area to incorporate a media room.  We developed a banquette that could operate as both dining area seating, as well as a viewing area for the new plasma TV.  In this small apartment, the goal was flexibility and multiple uses for the space.  The dining/living space accommodates entertaining, casual dining, and media viewing as the use of the space transforms throughout the day.
