Janet Bloomberg, AIA (as Project Architect with Cho, Wilks and Benn Architects, Baltimore, Maryland)    The director of the Open Society Institute was interested in establishing one large space, while maintaining sound privacy within individual offices.  Office walls facing the common area were constructed of glass with divisions composed of thin aluminum storefront.  The overall atmosphere is minimal, with color, texture and proportion serving as the main design components.  The space is efficient, pared down to only essential elements.  Hardware is concealed throughout, including ceiling and floor tracks for large sliding doors.  In order to allow the space to flow, corner glass doors were created in the conference rooms, which allow these rooms to join with the reception area as one unified space.  The material palette is cherry, aluminum, and clear glass with lapis blue, black melamine, and sisal.  Rattan and patterned fabric were selected to bring warmth to the space.  " />
